NEDERS (Energy Networks Association)

The National Equipment Defect Reporting Scheme (NEDERS) is an online database of incidents relating to equipment failures on the UK’s Electricity Network. The Energy Networks Association (ENA) is a trade organisation for the UK Electricity Industry and NEDERS is a key service that the Asssociation offers its members. The NEDERS web system has been subject to several phases of development culminating in the current live version.

The first stage of the project involved a complex data conversion from an existing Access system, which included the development of data cleansing databases for use by EA staff. Once cleansed the data was ported to SQL Server 2000. The database acts as the data provider for a VB6 IIS web application and the system is integrated with Access, Outlook and Word.

ENA members at the Regional Electricity Companies (RECs) enter details of incidents on their networks, the system informs the EA by email, an EA administrator logs on to the web site to ‘Confirm’ the incident, once confirmed the incident data is merged to Word and sent as an attachment to all other subscribers to the service. Incidents can also be searched and displayed on the web and the system allows diagrams and documents to be uploaded to the system and associated with incidents.

The NEDERS website contains restricted data and is not available for non-member access beyond the logon page. However, we may be able to offer a demo of its functions if requested.

Project Control System (Home Office - FRDG)

A multi-user bespoke application written entirely in Access 97. The system enable users to compile and record complete document histories for projects being undertaken. The system holds numerous different types of document, always ensuring that documents are formatted in a standard way.

Features of the system include different security levels, document revisions, cross project reporting, time recording and bulk printing. It can also report on financial and timesheet information held within documents.

The system was developed several years ago, prior to the inception of PowerDEV, but by developers currently working for PowerDEV, and has now been expanded to include other divisions of the Home Office.

ENA Publications (Energy Networks Association)

ENA Docs (The Energy Networks Association Document Catalogue System) is an online catalogue of documents relating to engineering issues within the Electricity Industry. The system allows the user to purchase documents online and uses WorldPay as the merchant services provider. Member companies can also purchase documents "on account".

The system provides various levels of access. Administrators can access all areas of the system in order to maintain the database and update user credentials whilst users have different levels of access according to their membership status within the Energy Networks Association. Users can search for documents on document type, subject area or number and can view a synopsis of the document before ordering. All documents are available in hard copy but an increasing number are being made available electronically in .pdf format. ENA Members benefit from access to ENA Confidential documents and reduced prices but the ENA Document Catalogue is a public website. Non-confidential documents are available to any customer but those logging in as guest will be prompted to register before they are allowed to complete a purchase.

When documents are ordered the system automatically produces a receipt/invoice (credit card/on account) and informs the ENA of the order by email. If electronic documents are ordered they are emailed to the customer and made available for download from the website. The system also produces an order summary every evening and emails it to the Energy Networks Association accounts department in Excel format.

SQL Server 2000 provides the backend data provider whilst a Visual Basic 6 IIS application serves the web pages.

Contacts (British Nuclear Industries Forum)

The contacts system allows the entry and management of contacts, permitting users to create meetings and events with associated contacts and attendees.

Users can add custom fields to contact or organisation information and can create custom groups to contain named contacts or organisations. Contacts can be grouped by any criteria including Industry, Member of Parliament, Constituency, Working group, Committee etc.

The user can perform highly flexible searches on the database and search results can be exported as a data source for mail merge purposes. Mail merge exports are saved and can be retrieved at any time for future use.

A Visual Basic application acts as the front end to an Access 2000 database.

Membership Database (Wellington Club)

A budget Access 2000 database application to record the contact and payment details of members, the membership type, the date of expiry of their membership etc. Produces membership expiry reports, current members report and address labels for mail shots and renewal reminders.

The Wellington club's membership database was a bespoke application but, in response to an increasing number of requests for systems of this type, PowerDEV have now developed Circle, powerful membership software with an impressive range of functions at a budget price. Circle can be customised if necessary to meet the exact requirements of any organisation and any such customisation is likely to be considerably less expensive than developing a complete bespoke system.
